UFC 134 Rio Betting Predictions: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Brendan Schaub
This Saturday August 27th we get to watch our BetDSI.eu wagers unfold in a Heavyweight matchup where legendary Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira ( 32-6-1-1) fights the young and talented Brendan Schaub ( 8-1 , 7 wins came by knockout) who BetDSI.eu sportsbook have as a -225 favorite at the current moment.
Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira is 35 ( 7 years the elder to Schaub), and although 35 is not old by even professional fighter standards, Nogueira has alot of fight miles on him in those years. Minotauro is clearly far removed from his pride days ( 2001 – 2006 ) where he was never stopped in any of his fights, and beat nearly everyone pride put in front of him only losing to : Dan Henderson (avenged in a later fight via submission armbar), Josh Barnett (avenged winning via unanimous decision), and Fedor Emelianenko to whom he dropped 2 unanimous decisions, and had one no contest due to an accidental clash of heads. In his three most recent fights he has only won one back in 2009 against Ex champion and aged legend Randy Couture, also winning fight of the night honors. Apart from that fight he was stopped for the first time ever via TKO by Frank Mir who isn’t known for sharp striking ( Nogueira was recovering from a severe staph infection) and losing via KO to now Heavyweight Champion Cain Valasquez.
Few fighters have come back from such a bad loss in they’re first UFC appearance like Brendan Schaub has. After a devastating knock out loss to Roy Nelson (knock out of the night) losing him the Ultimate Fighter season 10 finale, Brendan Schaub has stringed four UFC wins together in a row all but one via TKO. Beating the likes of : Chase Gormley (TKO), Chris Tuchscerer (TKO), Gabriel Gonzaga (decision) , and legendary striker Mirko ” Cro-Cop ” Filipovic (TKO).
While Brendan Schaub seems to be in the fighting form of his life, it is easy to see why he is the favorite in this one at -225. However making a wager on Antonio Nogueira at +185 is also appealing since I would not be the least surprise if the crafty Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist would happen to slap on a a mean submission for the win.
I’m betting with my head and not my heart on this one and taking Brendan Schaub at -225 for the win, which I believe will happen in the 2nd round via KO. I hope for the sake of Nogueira’s immediate future in the UFC he puts on a great performance, as he maybe fighting for his job in this one, and nobody wants to see such a decorated warrior of Nogeuira’s stature get beat handedly by a up and comer.
