UFC 136: Edgar vs Maynard Main Card Best Bets

ufc_136_bettingHere are three fights on the UFC 136 main card that you should definitely consider laying money down to bank on:

Frankie Edgar -145 vs Gray Maynard +115

Frankie Edgar survived the first round after getting seriously rocked then knocked around, then came back and won the 2nd round. After that display no one can deny that “The Answer” has a whole lot of heart, determination and is just plain resilient. For that reason, Frankie’s slight advantage in the speed department and the fact that Frankie “owes” Maynard one, I am taking Edgar to win by unanimous decision and retain his title.

José Aldo -355 vs Kenny Florian +285

José Aldo is the big favorite and for good reason. Betting on him would be a pretty safe bet. Kenny Florian is definitely a dangerous opponent but Aldo has been in the cage more often over the last 3 years and is on a 12 win streak. They both are Black Belts in BJJ (Florian is a 2nd degree Black Belt) and both their stand up styles are Muay Thai and Kick Boxing. Their differences are that  Aldo is more of an KO artist with 12 of his 20 wins coming from KO and Florian is more of an submission artist with 10 of his 15 wins coming via submission.

This fight will be both of their 21st fight. Kenny will try to shoot and get a ground and pound or submission win and Jose will be aiming for the KO. Interestingly enough, Aldo has only tapped once and Florian has been TKO’d once. I see Aldo defending is title as he has just too much momentum coming into this fight and I just don’t see Florian being the one to stop this freight train.

Chael Sonnen -275 vs Brian Stann +215

Chael Sonnen is the only fighter in a long time to not only whoop up on Anderson Silva, but actually almost defeat him. Before losing to Silva he defeated Dan Miller, Yushin Okami and Nate Marquardt respectively. Brian Stann is coming off a three fight win over Mike Massenzio, Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago respectively. My point in that Sonnen has had harder fights that have been better suited to his stellar skills, his fights where against top contenders while Stann’s were not. Sonnen’s set of skills are just on another level and I see him easily being able to dispatch this ex Marine Captain.
