The UFC, or as I like to call it, “The Ultimate School of Hard Knocks,” has an upcoming test October 29th for some fan favorites who might just fail. If your betting this event then play close attention to these two underdog betting picks as you might want to reanalyze who you are going to place your money on after reading this.
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović (PK+215) vs Roy “Big Country” Nelson (PK-275)
Cro Cop is the fan favorite and the underdog and if you are a fan then be sure to tune into this event as this might be his last fight. He’s 37 years old and lost his last 2 fights, if he loses this one he might decide to retire or the UFC might just cut him from the roster. Cro Cop is a great kick boxer and I can guarantee he will be throwing a lot more kicks than Nelson. Hopefully he will play it smart and slow Nelson down with kicks to the legs and body before going all out and trying to knock him out.
Nelson will be expecting the kicks and will be countering with punches and takedowns. He will be looking to wear down Cro Cop down by pressing his weight against him on the cage and on the ground. Nelson will be weighing more than 30lbs heavier than Cro Cop. Although Cro Cop has vast amateur boxing experience he has been knocked out 4 times in his MMA career and lost in his last 2 matches via KO. His weak chin will be Nelsons main target if he decides not to take down Cro Cop.
Cheick Kongo (PK EV) vs Matt “Meathead” Mitrione (PK-130)
The lines are even on this fight, making it even harder to make a prediction on. Kongo’s most recent win was over Pat Barry and he also has a win over Cro Cop, both great kick boxers. Although Matt is undefeated so far in his pro MMA career, that’s not to say he doesn’t have a weakness. He still lacks technique, speed and footwork; those are 3 things that Kongo has him beat. Regardless of that fact, Matt shares one of Kongo’s greatest attributes, one punch knockout power.
This fight will be Matt’s greatest test and I have a feeling he won’t disappoint. He is three years younger than Kongo, has already fought twice this year and has shown improvement in each of his fights. Meathead can definitely overcome the odds and come out on top.
