UFC 139 Betting Picks: Dan Henderson vs Mauricio Rua

UFC 139 Betting Picks: Dan Henderson vs Mauricio Rua

November 19th in San Jose, California, recently vacated Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson will meet in the cage with former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. BetDSI Sportsbook current Live Betting Lines display Mauricio Rua as a -135 favorite over Dan Henderson.

When he was healthy, BJJ blackbelt Mauricio Rua (25-5) had been fighting the best he has ever had in his life. He has been a menace starting with the first Lyoto Machida fight ( a very controversial decision loss). He then later avenged that loss via knockout in the first round to become the UFC middleweight champion. He had another injury setback and dropped the belt it to current title holder Jon Jones via TKO after being out sometime.

In Mauricio Rua’s last appearance in the octagon at UFC 134 also in San Jose California. He fought former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin. In that fight Rua displayed great head movement, footwork, and beautiful accurate strong striking to finish Griffin in the first round via KO. With another solid win over stiff competition we can only hope Marucio Rua’s injury concerns are behind him for this potential war.

Rua will be getting in the cage with Dan Henderson (36-8) who is also doing some of the best fighting he has ever put on in Dan Henderson. ” Hendo ” has been dominating opponents as he has won six of his last seven fights losing only once to Jake Shields. He has won his last three via KO against some great competition in Renato Sobral, Rafael Cavalcante (for the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship), and most recently Fedor Emlianenko.

Dan Henderson has fought the stiffest competition for years with a list of legends he has got in the cage with. He holds a split decision win over Mauricio’s brother Murilo Rua in 2001 at Pride 17. Henderson has huge knockout power in his straight right he loves to hit fighters with named ” The H Bomb” by the fans. Although he loves to brawl he also has an extensive wrestling resume going from NCAA Championships to olympic Greco-Roman wrestling in 92 and again in 96.

Betting Pick: Both fighters are at the top of their game and have had no fears with getting in and mixing it up with great striking. This could be a stand up war where it can end quickly by KO or TKO. Dan Henderson being healthier than Maricio Rua recently and winning his last three by brutal KO, I see “Hendo” either ending this one early or out working ” Shogun ” in an exciting win.
