UFC 141 Betting Predictions: Brock Lesnar vs Alistair Overeem
We are just one night away from a huge UFC 141 card and I am so excited about this Heavyweight matchup between Brock Lesnar and vacated Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, that I am going to start with this bout first. The winner of this matchup between bohemoths will be granted a title shot at Junior Dos Santos Heavyweight title. BetDSI Sportsbook current Live Lines display Alistair Overeem a -150 favorite over Brock Lesnar, this line had moved a lot since its conception where I believe it started out as -105 Overeem over Lesnar.
Alistair Overeem in his last matchup had won a very un-exciting decision victory over Fabricio Werdum in the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament. The matchup was not a huge display of Overeem’s skills, and people had expected much bigger things from the current Strikeforce heavyweight champion especially in the striking department. Werdum was actually standing and getting the better of him in parts of the matchup, where Overeem would just cover up eating blows.
With all this said any fighter can have a bad day, and take nothing away from Werdum who is a top notch fighter. Overeem has been a huge draw since receiving the Strikeforce heavyweight title and destroying a huge Brett Rogers within seconds certainly helped. Overeem also has been fighting in Dream and K1 this year, recently he defeated Todd Duffee in only 16 seconds to win the Dream heavyweight title.
Brock Lesnar after fighting the battle of his life in a bad case of diverticulitis and having major surgery, lost his UFC heaveyweight gold to Cain Valesquez via TKO in the first round. In that fight it appeared Brock has a bad reflex of avoiding punches as if he weren’t a top tier fighter, but Lets not be fooled Lesnar is one of the best heavyweights in the game and if he can work on some of his stand up mechanics and fix some of his bad habits of turtling up when punched he will continue to be a forced to be wreckened with.
Not many have come into the game and fought such competition as quickly as Lesnar who in just seven fights holds wins over Heath Herring, Frank Mir, Shane Carwin, and Randy Couture. He has some of the best combination of wrestling, size, and quickness the sport has ever seen. With some brutal knock out power to boot as he destroyed Heath Herring’s face in the opening seconds of the match with a single punch that sent Herring tumble salting backwards. Also showing an amazing chin and heart in the Carwin fight as he was brutalized in the first round only to come out and end the fight in the second.
My Prediction: I am going against the grain and choosing Brock Lesnar to take down the more experienced Alistair Overeem and grind out a decision victory. BetDSI has this listed at an over / under of only a round and a half thinking these bohemoths end this fight early. I say a great wager is on the over 1 and a half rounds as I beleive at the very least Lesnar takes Overeem down and easily extends this fight past a round and a half.
