If you’re looking for a fast paced 5 round slug fest then look no further then the José Aldo vs Chad Mendes fight. This fight for the UFC Featherweight title takes place this Saturday at 7pm/10pm PTET in Brazil. Here are the UFC Betting Odds over at the BetDSI Sportsbook:
CHAD MENDES +195
JOSE ALDO -245
Although Chad “Money” Mendes is undefeated with an 11-0 record, Jose “Junior” Aldo is the betting favorite as he is on a 13 win streak and has defended the title 3 times. Comparing both their fight history, Aldo has definitely had steeper competition. He has wins over well known and respected contenders such as Urijah Faber and Kenny Florian. One fighter that they both have wins over is Cub Swanson. Aldo scored a 1st round, 8 second win over Swanson at WEC 41 while Mendes got a win over the same opponent at WEC 50 via unanimous decision. How do you think Mendes would do in a five round fight against Urijah or Florian?
They say styles make fights; well this is a classic wrestler vs BJJ artist match. Mendes has a NCAA Division I Wrestling background while Aldo is a BJJ Black Belt. Both are all around fighters but Aldo has the advantage on the floor and can more effectively defend, sweep, reverse and submit from his back. Aldo has great balance and a 94% takedown defense. I expect Mendes to be able to take him down maximum once per round but I don’t see him being able to score enough damage nor points to steal the win. You have to remember that in UFC title matches the title holder must loose convincingly in order to be dethroned by the judges.
I see Chad’s wrestling pedigree assisting him in lasting 5 rounds with Aldo. But what I have seen in Mendes so far isn’t convincing enough to make me think he can steal the win.
UFC 142 Betting Pick: Go with Aldo to come away with a unanimous decision win. He will come ready as he’s training with Gray Maynard.
