UFC 148 Picks: Cung Le vs Patrick Cote and Dong Hyun Kim vs Damian Maia

Although all the hype surrounding UFC 148 is centered around the highly anticipated Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen fight, let’s not overlook the rest of the fights in the main card as they present attractive MMA betting opportunities as well. We covered the Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen 2 and Forrest Griffin vs Tito Ortiz 3 fights HERE and below we cover 2 more fights on the UFC 148 main card:

Cung Le +200 vs Patrick Cote -250

Cung Le is a larger than life figure with a very exciting, unpredictable style. However, based upon his last outing against Wanderlei Silva, what he doesn’t have is good cardio.

Cote “The Predator” is returning to the UFC for the first time since October 2010 after being dropped following three straight losses. He got straight back down to work though and managed a four fight-winning streak outside of the organisation earning this recall.

A loss by Cung Le would be a disaster and although I don’t really see that happening, this is a battle that he has to win if he wishes to continue in the UFC, although at age 40 he does not actually have that much of a future anyway. If Cote loses he will most likely not get another chance in the UFC.

A bet on the underdog here could pay off. Le to win this in the second round via a TKO, punches.

Dong Hyun Kim -152 vs Damian Maia +122

Odds wise this is a much closer bout. “Stun Gun” Kim has a solid UFC record, his bouts tend to go the distance suggesting he just does not have the power at this level to finish fighters, a problem he never had in the DEEP organization.

Maia also has a big history of going to the judges and because of that we must fear for this bout’s crowd friendliness. Maia is superb on the ground while Dong Hyun Kim will prove to be the better man standing. I feel that will be the difference if Kim can keep the fight standing, and keep up his usual high level of action, he will attract the judge’s eye.

I pick Kim to win this via decision.
