The UFC’s bad luck run of injuries continues, as the Lightheavyweight title match between champion Jon Jones and challenger Dan Henderson has been cancelled due to Henderson’s knee injury. The match was scheduled for September 1st in Las Vegas for UFC 151, which has been cancelled. UFC President Dana White laid out the company’s options, with the final choice being a match between Jones and Lyoto Machida now scheduled for September 22nd.
Henderson was about a 6 to 1 underdog, while Machida is coming in as slightly less than a 5 to 1 underdog now that the lines are starting to open at the sportsbooks.

Prior to cancelling the UFC 151 card, Dana White reportedly offered Jones a bout with Chael Sonnen, which Jones refused. White is said to have been angered by Jones’ refusal. White went so far as to say that Jones is not a big draw, and he wont become one by refusing fights. Add having pissed off the most powerful man in MMA (and his gargantuan ego) to Jones’ list of external baggage.
Machida is likely a much stiffer challenge than Henderson when all is said and done, but at -485 for Jones with a +350 comeback on Machida seems to not reflect the mounting pressure on Jones.
Mike Tyson had a lot of baggage start to pile on, and he continued to win. It is likely that Jones will get by the Machida fight, and a fight with Henderson if it happens, but it will also be interesting to see if he continues to be enigmatic outside the ring.
He was offered Chael Sonnen, a fighter he should dominate. Jones said recently on Twitter ‘ I know exactly what I am doing’. Nope, you just think you do.
You should have taken the Sonnen fight and offered to fight Machida on the 22nd. Two fights in 3 weeks. Guys like Dan Henderson and Sonnen and many other MMA fighters eat that for lunch. And you prima donna’d the whole thing.
