The UFC 166 card is coming to us this weekend from Houston, Texas with a main event featuring Cain Velasquez defending his Heavyweight Title against his arch rival Junior Dos Santos. Top to bottom, this is one of the UFC’s strongest card in years, and we are still waiting for the sport books to put up lines on a lot of the undercard. Let’s take a look.

Perhaps the most intriguing fight on the undercard is at welterweight, when Hector Lombard clashes with Nate Marquardt. Both men are refugees from the Middleweight division, and both men have their backs to the wall when it comes to staying with the UFC.
Lombard was a high profile signing from rival Bellator, and he has gone 1-2 snce going to the UFC. In the past, Lombard has been reluctant to cut weight and this is his first time making 170 lbs as an MMA professional. Despite a frame that is certainly more built for the welterweight class, it will be interesting to see if Lombard, who is in his mid thirties, handles the cut well. If he does, he should win the match.
Marquardt is a solid pro with a lot of fights at a high level, but he is 0-2 in his last two outings, so even as a welterweight he may be on his way out. He was also cut from the UFC roster in the past, so he is literally hanging by a thread.
Also on the card is the entertaining John Dodson in his return after failing to gain the UFC Flyweight title against Demetrious Johnson in his last outing. Look for Dodson to come in as a favorite. Montague has some nice wins on his record, but he is making his UFC debut and those jitters on the big show are nothing to sneeze at.
Also on the card is a women’s bout between Jessica Eye and Sara Kaufmann, both of whom are making their UFC debuts. It is a solid match of two women with excellent records and a lot of skill. On paper, Kaufmann has a little better level of competition overall, and Eye may be more suited to a 125lb weight class in the future. Look for Kaufmann to come in a slight favorite for the fight.
