August is a busy month for the UFC, as they are presenting 4 full fight cards in the 31 days. Up next on the schedule is the 8/17 UFC Fight Night event in Boston headlined by the Mauricio Rua vs Chael Sonnen Light Heavyweight match. There are several matches throughout the card that feature the lower weights, led by the main card bout between Featherweights Uriah Faber and Iuri Alcantara, where Faber is favored at (-270) with the comeback sitting at (+210) for Alcantara. Another intriguing Featherweight bout heads up the undercard, as Britian’s Brad Pickett takes on Michael McDonald. McDonald is coming off a loss to interim titleholder Renan Barao which snapped an 8 fight winning streak he had built up. At just 22 years old, McDonald would seem to still have a bright future ahead of him and he needs to start winning streak again. His opponent, Brad Picket is on the other end of the spectrum – at 34 years old, the veteran is bringing basically the same game he has always had. Look for McDonald to be favored, and to have his hand raised at the end of the day.
Another interesting match involves the return of Mike Thomas Brown, who has not fought since May of 2012. Back in his WEC run, Brown is the man who roughly unseated Uriah Faber from his title perch, and he kept the belt in a rematch. Since his lat outing against Faber, he is a lackluster 4-4. Though in great condition, Brown is now 37 years old, and this match could spell his last outing should he lose. In Siler he is getting a young gun, but one he should be able to get through. Look for the lines to favor Brown in this bout.
Another fighter making his return after a layoff of a year is Manny Gamburyan. Gamburyan is a danger to anyone in the division when he is on, however he has had a lot of losses pile up in his career (he is 12-7) and is no longer the hot name he once was. His opponent Cole Miller, is a solid veteran coming off a nice win over Bart Palazewski. This is one to keep an eye on the line, see where it comes in. If Gamburyan is an underdog, it may be worth a look, as his camp is associated with Ronda Rousey. Though it is giving her a lot of credit, her success may serve to reinvigorate a dying career for Gamburyan.
