The UFC closes out August in Indianapolis, Indiana with ‘UFC Fight Night 27: Condit vs. Kampmann 2′ event on August 28th. Right now, the main event of Carlos Condit fighting Martin Kampmann sees ‘The Natural Born Killer’ a (-220) favorite over Kampmann, whose comeback is at (+180). Kampmann owns a Split Decision victory over Condit back in April 0f 2009, but Kampmann has failed to capitalize on big wins in the past. Kampmann is coming off a loss to Johny Hendricks, whose next match is a UFC title shot. As for Condit, he remains one of the best fighters in the division, however he has two losses in a row and is in need of a win big time!

Condit is favored despite having lost the first match and dropping 2 fights in a row, because in his last 13 rounds (5 each against Georges St Pierre and Nick Diaz, and 3 against Hendricks) he has shown a punishing, unorthodox style that has shined even in his losses.
Condit has gone the distance in his last 3 fights, while none of Kampmann’s last 3 fights have gone the distance. Like Condit, Kampmann has a well rounded game and is good in all aspects. He is best in a firefight where he has been hurt, as he has found that extra reserve of energy on several occasions gone on to win fights he was losing. A win over Condit now would send Kampmann back to where he wants to be, and that is in title contention.
Though both men do a lot of the same things well, when Condit is on his game, he is a superior fighter to Kampmann. And Condit is expected in top form, as he deliberately took time off with the goal of improvement and a string return. He has been close enough to the title to know that he has to improve if he wants to attain that goal. An improved Condit simply needs to show it in the octagon.
Kampmann too can be credited with mental toughness, and he has the confidence of winning that first outing, but a loss would put Kampmann at 3-4 in his last 7 fights and spell an end to his title aspirations.
