The main event fight for the UFC’s September offering in England will feature Heavyweights Stipe Miocic and taking on Stefan Struve. Both men are coming off impressive victories in their last outings, and the winner of this upcoming bout is certainly going to be moving on up in the Heavyweight rankings.
The line for this fight is not out yet, however I could see Struve coming in a slight favorite, as he is certainly the more seasoned of the two. Miocic has 9 MMA fights in his career, while Struve has 11 fights in the UFC. Despite the difference in experience, Miocic has proven to be a tough customer , and he has a real shot in the fight.
Miocic had a tough first round in his last bout with undefeated Shane Del Rosario, before stepping up in the second round and taking the Strikeforce veteran out. He looked calm and collected, and with that win, he moved his record to 3-0 in the UFC.
Struve was also impressive in his last outing. He faced hard slugging Lavar Johnson, and with Struve’s questionable chin, many people saw it as a pick ‘em fight. Struve did not fool around with Johnson, submitting him in roughly a minute and showing the professionalism and talent to control where the fight is going to occur.
Against Miocic that will be harder, as he faces a hard nosed fighter who is going to want to keep the fight standing, and a fighter that has the wrestling to do it. If Struve can avoid the big punch however, his freakish length means his punches and knees are going to be like nothing Miocic has seen before.
It is an impressive match, and one that I am going to stay away from on the betting side. I will watch it very attentively, since as a step up fight, we are going to find out a lot more about Stipe Miocic, as Struve is clearly the best opponent he has faced in his short career.
