The UFC has apparently come to a verbal agreement for a bout between legendary fighters Dan Henderson and Vitor Belfort. Both men have long careers at the top of the fight game, and both are known Testosterone Replacers, so it is a match that is sure to get a ton of hype and a considerable amount of controversy. The weight class and the contracts are still being worked out, but the match has apparently been agreed to by both men, and is expected to be the main event for a November UFC event.

The books are likely to see Belfort as the favorite when the lines open. Based on his impressive recent showings and the fact that Henderson has looked flat in his most recent outings, Belfort will be favored at the books to open in all likelihood.
Henderson can win the fight, but he has to be a different fighter than he has been in recent outings. Henderson has grown more and more reliant on his one punch in the stand up game over the years, and that will not favor him in a match against a very precise counter fighter in Belfort. Belfort has added kicks to his already fearsome hands and presents a formidable stand up opponent.
Henderson is going to have to use his grappling. He can fight chest to chest along the fence and wear down Belfort. In the clinch, Henderson is very powerful and Belfort needs distance to set up his big strikes. Henderson’s other option is to try for the takedown and ground and pound Belfort for 3 rounds. If it is 5 rounds, Henderson has shown that he slows down in fights, and a 5 rounder would favor Belfort as well.
The UFC will once again rely on Belfort to main event an event in Brazil. Belfort has a bit of a lucky charm throughout his career, both good and bad. Back when he fought Vanderlei Silva in Brazil more than a decade ago, the chaos surrounding Belfort was immeasurable. Somehow, once in the octagon, things have come together for Belfort many times in his career, and that first Silva fight is a prime example. Belfort has grown into his role as a headliner in Brazil, and despite all of Henderson’s hard nosed toughness and decades of international competition, the home field will be in Belfort’s favor as well.
