Elkins is coming off a decision win over Hatsu Hioki, and prior to that he was wiped out by Chad Mendes in less than 2 minutes. He is looking to get back into the title picture after his setback with Mendes. Stephens, however, is 2-0 since his three fight losing streak almost saw him lose his UFC gig. Stephens is a former Lightweight, and should be bigger than Elkins, who will look to turn this into a gritty contest. Elkins, for all his great qualities, is not fast, and he wont be able to avoid getting hit by the bigger Stephenson.
Donald Cerrone is a fighter whose star has fallen. Once one of the divisions top contenders, Cerrone has gone 2-2 in his last 4 fights. He dropped a fight fast to Anthony Pettis, then alternated wins and losses over two lackluster decisions before getting a second round stoppage against Evan Dunham in his last outing. He faces Adriano Martins, who is making his second UFC appearance. At 31, with a long resume, Martins would figure to be hungry and looking for a break. If Cerrone shows up focused, he will be fine in the match up, but if he is weighed down with off octagon issues, Cerrone could be on the losing end.
On the other hand, Sergio Pettis is a fighter whose star is on the rise. His older brother is UFC champion, and at 10-0 Pettis is eager to show that he is not riding his brother’s coat tails. Caceres is a popular Brazilian whose unlikely to pull off a win in this fight, but he will make it exciting.
