This weekend the UFC brings us UFC 145 from Atlanta, Georgia after what feels like an eternity between live, full blown UFC events. The next date, on the schedule for May 5th, is the 3rd edition of the UFC on FOX. This is the big show, on the big channel for FOX so it is an important event. The main event features a Lightweight matchup between two of the division’s top fighters, Nate Diaz and Jim Miller. The matchup has fireworks written all over it, and the winner will probably be the first challenger for the winner of Ben Henderson – Frankie Edgar 2. Take a look at the lines for the fight as they sit today. Miller is a -215 favorite, with Diaz’s the dog at +175.
First of all, I have a question. We all know Nate and his brother Nick are close. Maybe Nate is clean, but I want to know how Nate is doing with the glaucoma or anxiety or whatever the hell it is you get a pot prescription for in California? It is a legit question, because if you have any type of No Contest, failed test, reversal of decision or whatever, someone in the betting public is gonna be pissed off.
Diaz has looked solid back at 155 lbs, making short work of Takanori Gomi, and impressively beating Donald Cerrone in his last two UFC bouts. Miller, for his part is 8-1 in his last 9 UFC appearances, with his only loss coming by decision to current champion Henderson.
Miller has been a very consistent performer, and Miller’s style is that he is constantly looking to get out of a fight by finishing it. Throughout his career, Diaz has tended to get into scraps and grudge matches, and at times it does not serve him well with the judges.
It will be interesting to see this fight go to the ground, because both guys have excellent Jiu Jitsu and Submission training. And standing, many people might give the advantage to Diaz, but I think it will be Miller who sets the pace in this fight, and steals rounds if he has to. Picking Miller all the way.
