UFC on Fox 4 takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and presents four of the world’s best Light Heavyweights in two bouts: Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs Brandon “The Truth” Vera and Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida vs Ryan “Darth” Bader; one of these fighters will earn a second shot at Jon Jones, assuming of course he himself beats Dan Henderson.
You can watch the prelims on Fuel and the Main event on Fox. August 4th at 5pm/8:00pm PTET
Shogun Rua Vs Brandon Vera
Of these four fighters on paper Rua fared best against Jones lasting into the third round, but I would not read too much into that, he was well beaten.
By the end of the first round Shogun looked a beaten man. I am not sure a rematch would be a big draw. And I am sure the result would be the same. Shogun has not improved since losing to Jones but you can be sure Jones has added something to his arsenal.
That being said I am sure Rua is the favorite in this bout against Vera and BetDSI would seem to back me up:
Mauricio Rua -340
B randon Vera +270
You have to wonder how Vera ended up possibly just one fight away from a title bout given his recent poor record. Even his last win was just a Unanimous Decision win against the less than impressive Eliot Marshall. I do not see any possible way he can beat Rua. In fact he really is the weakest kink in this foursome.
UFC on Fox 4 Pick: Rua to win via TKO punches Round 2.
Lyoto Machida vs Ryan Bader
Lyoto Machida is in the worst form of his life with 1 win in 4, yet, he must still remain one of the best fighters in this weight class and one of the few that could offer Jones a realistic challenge.
What he needs right now is a big confidence boast, if he can manage to string a few wins together he might just start to look like the Dragon of old. In actuality his defeat to Jones was probably the best display any of these four fighters put on against the champion.
Ryan Bader of course stands firmly in the way of his progress. Bader himself had a shaky period losing to Jones and Ortiz before his recent run of two wins.
BetDSI have this bout:
Lyoto Machida -310
Ryan Bader + 250
Bader is not going to go easily, in fact, I fully expect him to take Machida all the way. Sadly, that won’t be enough.
Bader’s wrestling skills are his big strength but I think Machida has such a tricky style and will present so many angles Bader will struggle to get hold of him and you can be sure Machida will punish him on the way in.
UFC of Fox 4 Pick: Machida via Unanimous Decision.
