Thiago Silva: -325
Stanislav Nedkov: +265
Both Damon Martin and Larry Pepe have chosen the favorite, Thiago Silva, to win the bout. The MMA Weekly contributor put it best in saying that “Thiago Silva feasts upon non-top 10 competition,” the Brazilian has been able to use his muay Thai and vicious ground and pound to eliminate most challengers inside the octagon, but has found himself outclassed by better opposition in the past. Martin also points out that Nedkov has been on the shelf for almost 16 months, and in his last outing, defeated Silva’s former teammate Luiz Cane. “Banha” was able to get the better of the Bulgarian early on, until he he became too passive; that is not a word Thiago Silva is familiar with.
Pepe also feels that Silva will have his hand raised at the end of the night, giving the Bulgarian his first career loss, as the massive light havyweight is facing an undersized, over-muscled middleweight, with subpar cardio. Not only does the Blackzilian hold a size and reach advantage, but it more skilled in nearly every aspect of the mixed martial arts game.
Realistically, it’s surprising Silva isn’t a bigger favorite, but that may be owing to the fact that he has been hurt in pervious bouts, despite only suffering one career knockout. If Stanislav has a chance, it will be by connecting with a big series of punches early on. However, the likelier scenario is Silva hurting the Bulgarian, much like Cane did, only he will not relent and finish the bout.
