Industry insiders Reed Kuhn of Fightnomics.com and Case Keefer of the Las Vegas Sun both favor Lombard going into the bout. The recent signee is coming off of a contentious unanimous decision loss to Tim Boetsch at UFC 149 and looks to gain his first octagon victory. While the Brazilian leg lock specialist managed to put together quite the run since the start of 2011, his train was derailed when he met Alan Belcher in May and also looks to rebound.
Kuhn cites Lombard’s superior striking and otherworldly knockout power, as well as “Toquinho’s” propensity to expose himself a little too much, which has cost him in the past. Meanwhile, Keefer points out Lombard’s ability to stuff takedowns and keep the fight in his realm, where he clearly holds the advantage in power and technique.
The reality is that all the cards are in the American Top Team representative’s hands; Lombard should very well win this fight and do so handily. “Toquinho” tends to wilt when pressure is put on him, and the heavy-handed judoka should do exactly that.
