UFC on FX Betting Picks: Melvin Guillard vs Jim Miller

UFC on FX Betting Picks: Melvin Guillard vs Jim MillerThe UFC on FX: Guillard vs Miller event takes place this Friday from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN at 9pm ET. The main event features a very athletic wrestler with KO power in Melvin Guillard vs all around fighter and submission expert Jim Miller. Both fighters will be laying everything on the line as the victor will be fighting the winner of UFC 144’s Frankie Edgar vs Ben Henderson for the lightweight title.

Both fighters will be able to stand and bang toe to toe standing up but what about on the floor? Well that’s where Melvin is at a serious disadvantage because 11/20 of Miller’s wins have come via submission and 8/9 of Guillard’s losses have come from submissions. Yikes! Well the bad news doesn’t end there for Guillard, Miller has NEVER been submitted or KO’d, and after 23 fights, 11 which were in the UFC, you can bet that his chin has been tested. All of the before mentioned is partially why BetDSI has placed Jim Miller as the betting favorite:

MELVIN GUILLARD +150
JIM MILLER -180

Melvin knows what he is up against so he switched camps for this fight to train with Rashad Evans over at Imperial Athletics. He will definitely be working on his takedown defense because if the fight goes to the floor he will most likely be taking a nap. Miller’s takedown offense is 47% successful and Guillard’s takedown defense is at 65% so you would think that Melvin would be OK. Wrong! The situation is that taking Guillard down or taking his back will be Miller’s main objective, especially if he is eating fists. Melvin started training with a BJJ specialist for this fight but I don’t think he had enough time to learn how to effectively defend against Miller’s submissions.

UFC on FX Betting Pick: Miller has the stat and style advantage so I have to go with him to grab the win. I see him being able to nab a win within the first 2 rounds.
