Love her or hate her, Ronda Rousey is 2-0 in the last two months and the UFC really has no one on the current roster who is even remotely close to looking dangerous enough to challenge for Rousey’s title. Now there is talk of Rousey getting another match in the July time frame, and that former Strikeforce star Gina Carano is the name popping up most often as an opponent. There is only one reason to not do the fight really, and that is that it is not really a good fight overall for women’s MMA, but that shouldn’t stop the UFC from moving ahead with it if possible.

First of all, Carano has never made the 135 lb class, so if the UFC is going to make a catchweight bout or open up another weight class, why are we talking Carano and not ‘Cyborg’ Santos-Justino? Oh yeah, because Dana thinks he milk a Carano fight for a good chunk of change and he can still be a baby and hold grudges against Cyborg and Tito.
Low and behold how time flies. The last time we saw Carano, Justino had just finished wiping her out. Should Carano return in August of this year, it will have been 5 years since that match, and that is a lot of time away from the ring to make up for, especially against Rousey who really is in her prime.
Here is the other dark sign, and a sign that Rousey should take notice of. If Carano is doing well in the land of ‘Hollywood’ why would she need to come back? And a quick google scan shows that she has been fat at times in time in between. It was common inside knowledge with Carano that she didn’t really have a fighter’s mentality and would leave the game if the money was right. She isnt coming back for the love of the sport.
