The next full fledged UFC event MMA fans will get is scheduled for November 10th at the exotic location of Macau, China. The main event features Rich Franklin taking on Cung Le. Both Middleweights are nearing the tail end of their careers, but it remains an action fight with two very talented fighters. The odds have been out for a while, and the public seems to have come in betting Franklin, as he now sits at -275 favorite over Le, who is coming back at +215. Le has long been a favorite of the betting public however, so there may be more changes in this line as we get closer to fight time.
There are no real significant advantages in terms of intangibles. Both are professionals and are in the midst of training camps that are heading into the final weeks. Both are ready to main event what for the UFC is a critical show in China, both have the right experience and mindset to handle that pressure.
The trip to China is grueling and long, but both have experience. Le is from Vietnam, and may be better suited for the long trip, but Franklin is experienced in fighting overseas as well. Perhaps adjusting to the drastic time change maybe something Le has a slight advantage with.
The match is expected to be five rounds, which favors Franklin. Le has gotten tired in his bouts, and they have been three rounders. Franklin went five rounds in his last outing, a win against Vanderlei Silva in Brazil. The longer the fight goes, the more it benefits Franklin.
Franklin has KO power in his hands, and he also will contest the clinch of Le. He is going to be bigger and stronger than Le, and if he is not stronger in the clinch early, he will be before the end of the fight.
Le is a very dangerous, technical striker, and Rich likes to stand and grind, so do not look for this bout to go to the ground. Though Le is dangerous on his feet to anyone, Franklin has only really been taken out by Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, and he has proven to be sturdy against some big hitters.
All this indicates that the line is right on, as Franklin is the better overall MMA fighter at this point.
