By crowning their titleholders in the cage and not just letting the president decide, INVICTA is treating women’s MMA with far more respect than the UFC.

The Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas will host INVICTA 4, an all women’s MMA card on January 5th 2013.  With all the hype surrounding the UFC’s recent announcement that UFC 157 will be headlined by Ronda Rousey and her first defense of the title that was bestowed upon her by Dana White, it is good to see INVICTA has taken the depth of the women’s divisions seriously.  The main event is to crown a strawwight champion as Carla Esparza takes on Claudia Gadelha.  Now there is a novel idea, fighting to earn a title!

The strawweight belt at 115 lbs, and the match that is set up could be a classic. Claudia Gadelha is 9-0 in MMA and has multiple titles in Jiu Jitsu on her resume.  Carla Esparaza is 8-2 overall and riding a 3 fight win streak.  She has 3 finishes by TKO and 3 by submission and is considered a very complete and balanced competitor.  The match is exciting.

I’m hoping to see a lot of the books out there open lines out there for the top matches on this card.  Gadelha is likely to come in a 2 to 1 up to 3 to 1 favorite based on her undefeated status and her strong comeback from an injury that sidelined her for 2011.

Esparaza is a game fighter and she will make a fight out of it, but the odds will be on Gadelha to earn the title probably by submission.

The card also includes and exciting co-main event between Shanya Basler who has lit up the INVICTA cage in the past, and BJJ Black Belt Alexis Davis.

Basler is a veteran at 15’7 oveall, and despite taking some losses on her record, has fought all over the world and is a thrilling fighter who has finished 14 of her 15 wins.  Basler may be ready to come into her own, and a win over Davis would be meaningful to her career.

Davis, however, is very tough.  She choked out japanese veteran Hitomi Akano, who gave ‘Cyborg’ Santos one of her toughest fights despite giving up a ton of weight.  this pits BJJ against a tricky submission artist, and I look for Basler to win, and for this match to steal the show!

The main bouts on the cardcard are available to be seen at INVICTAFC.COM.  Support the women’s side of the sport!
