In Karakhanyan, the WSOF may have one of the best Featherweights in the world. He won his WSOF debut with a first round guillotine choke, and he has an impressive overall record of 22-3. He has a wide array of strikes and he fights aggressively in the style of the russian fighters. He is mainly remembered for a lackluster 2-2 stint with Bellator that includes losses to Joe Warren and Patricio Freire, but that was 2010 and he has had a very solid 8 fight winning streak.
In Lance Palmer, he faces an undefeated fighter (7-0) from the heralded Team Alpha Male that has produced Chad Mendes, Urijah Faber and Joseph Benavides. he is a powerful wrestler who is going to look to ground Karakharyan and use ground and pound. This is Palmer’s WSOF debut, so he is surely benefitting from his camp’s pedigree.
Looking over Karakharyan’s losses however, one must turn to the loss against Warren, as Palmer has the potential to ground Karakharyan’s high velocity game. Palmer may have submissions, as he has won nearly half his bouts via sub, but it is unlikely that he finishes the savvy russian. This means he is going to have to work for 15 minutes.
In Elvis Mutapcic and Jessie Taylor, you have two fighters making their promotional debuts in the weight class of the recently signed Yushin Okami. Taylor is a veteran who has been around a long time and has fought a lot of big names. In Mutapcic , he gets another fighter from the typical russian mold – big puncher with a fearless, aggressive mindset . Look for Mutapcic to take it to Taylor and never let up.
